What are breakfast biscuits?

Exactly what the name suggests - A hard, crunchy snack that can be consumed as a substitute for a full breakfast or as a morning snack (with or without coffee/tea).

Similar to biscotti, our biscuits can be dipped in your favorite warm or iced beverage for added flavor and deliciousness.

Aren’t biscuits just cookies?

Respectfully, we disagree. While referring to our products as breakfast biscuits instead of cookies might feel more tedious than your 15th Zoom meeting of the day, we called our products breakfast biscuits because they can be consumed everyday as a quick, on-the-go morning snack.

Unlike traditional cookies, our biscuits are NOT an indulgent snack reserved for your “cheat day” and are NOT filled with heaps of sugar and unnatural ingredients.

Your products advertise spice-forward flavors. Does this mean your biscuits are spicy?

UHHHH NO! Let’s make something very clear - Using spices does not equal spicy. Our products are flavored with a subtle blend of antioxidant rich spices and unrefined sugars for that perfect mix of sweet and savory in each bite.

In fact, we use the same spices in our Chai Spice biscuits as a Chai Spice latte from your favorite coffee shop. The only difference is that we taste better (completely unbiased opinion here 🙂).

How do you compare to other breakfast biscuit brands?

Unlike other brands, we are not ACTUALLY selling you a sugar-filled cookie masked as a breakfast biscuit. Don’t believe us? Just compare these brands' sugar content to an Oreo [Hint: They both contain 12-14 grams of sugar per serving].

Our nutrient dense ingredients, whole grains and anti-inflammatory spices provide you with calm, focused energy throughout the morning while keeping you full for hours. No sugar crashes here.

Are your products gluten free? Vegan/Dairy Free?

Our biscuits are gluten free, dairy free, vegan and free from artificial preservatives, unrefined sugars, gums, starches & lecithins.

Each serving contains 4 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber, 6 grams of sugar and is a good source of iron.

Are these only for people who have tried South Asian food before?

Another NO from us on this one. While a few of our ingredients originate from South Asia and our flavors are inspired by our South Asian heritage, we are by no means only for those who have consumed or are familiar with South Asian foods.

Where are your products made?

All our products are made in the United States at a FDA certified facility.

Ingredients

What’s inside?

Each ingredient is carefully sourced for its taste, nutritional benefits and impact on the planet. A nourishing blend of seeds, nuts and ancient grain flours make the base of our biscuits.

Flavors come from a mix of aromatic, antioxidant rich spices and sweet, caramel-like notes from coconut sugar. We bake all our biscuits in virgin, unrefined, MCT rich coconut oil.

What’s so special about your main ingredient - pearl millet? Why do you call it a climate smart grain?

Pearl millet is an ancient grain that has been cultivated in South Asia and East Africa for centuries. A staple part of diets in both geographies, pearl millet is naturally gluten free and renowned for its protein, fiber, iron and other essential vitamins & minerals.

Pearl millet is part of the broader millet family which contains more than 10 different varieties of millets.

It's’s climate smart properties are a result of its adaptation to dry, desert-like conditions, where it can withstand temperatures >108F and prolonged periods of drought.

In a world where climate change has resulted in higher temperatures and increased incidences of drought, we firmly believe that ancient grains such as pearl millet will need to play a larger role in our food systems.

How do you source your ingredients?

All our ingredients are either sourced in the United States or via US based suppliers that conform to our strict standards of quality and food safety while following all necessary federal, state and local government regulations.

Our main ingredient, pearl millet, is sourced via a US based supplier that works with small family-owned farms in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India.

Brand

Why do you call yourself a South Asian-American health food brand?

Unlike other brands that are built on ingredients that were discovered on a "spiritual journey in South Asia" but never truly recognize their origins, we want to build a better-for-you food brand that celebrates and educates consumers about the origins of our main ingredients and the farmers & communities that grow them.

This is why we celebrate the origins of our main ingredient, pearl millet, which is sourced from smallholder farmers in Rajasthan, India through our flavors.

P.S. Millets are also grown & consumed throughout China and East Africa

What does “Kanira” mean?
